Eid ul Fitr holidays for federal government institutions Posted on 23/09/2008
All ministries and other federal government institutions will be closed for work from Monday, September 29, 2008 (Ramadan 29) until Sunday, October 5, 2008 when work resumes in all those institutions, according to a circular issued yesterday by Minister of Health and Chairman of the Civil Service Commission, Humaid Mohammed Al-Qattami.

Khalifa Foundation to intensify Ramadan charity programme in Palestine, Iraq Posted on 03/09/2008
The Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Charity Foundation is to intensify its charity programmes in Iraq and Palestine during the holy month of Ramadan.
Minister for Presidential Affairs and Board Chairman of the Foundation, H.H. Ramadan cannons keep historic tradition alive Posted on 02/09/2008
Historically, the Ramadan cannon has served as a means to announce the end of the fast at sunset. However, today it plays an important but different role, namely to keep Ramadan traditions alive.
The firing of the cannon is believed to date from the early days of Islam, when the Fatimid caliph instructed that a cannon be placed at the highest point of a city so that during Ramadan, all Muslims would be able to hear the shot signaling the end of the fast at sunset.

This year's Ramadan Open Sports Festival organised by the Armed Forces Officers Club (AFOC) starts on Tuesday with a total prize fund of Dh14 million on offer. As the holy month of Ramadan is at the doorsteps, the Red Crescent Authority (RCA) has started mobilising its resources to begin a collective charity drive at home and abroad. Playing its role in alleviating poverty and destitution, the RCA has sent charity caravans to over 50 countries. RCA plans to set up 75 Ramadan tents in UAE Posted on 30/08/2008
The Red Crescent Authority (RCA) will set up 75 Ramadan tents across the country and as the holidaymakers return home and donations increase, the number of tents will go up to around 200.

Six-hour a day work for private sector during Ramadan Posted on 27/08/2008
The working hours for the private sector will be reduced by two hours during the holy month of Ramadan.
Dr Ali Ebrahim Al Hosani, Acting Undersecretary of the Ministry of Justice, told Khaleej Times that the working hours are automatically reduced by two hours in all private sector establishments during the holy month.
