![]() Dubai hotels will cut rates to attract tourists

Many hotels in Dubai will reduce room rates by half during the month-long Dubai Shopping Festival (DSF) as part of a campaign by the emirate's Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM) to boost visitor arrivals amid an economic slowdown.
The new marketing campaign includes discounts on room rates ranging from 40 per cent to 60 per cent, DTCM said yesterday.

 Abu Dhabi to have 23,000 hotel rooms by 2012: ADTA

By 2012, the numbers of hotel rooms in Abu Dhabi are expected to rise to 23,000 with the demand and supply stabilizing between 2012 and 2015, HE Mubarak Hamad Al Muheiri, Director General of Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority (ADTA), said on Sunday after opening the first edition of the Equip'Hotel Middle East Exhibition and Conference (EHME), a major trade show focused on the region's hospitality industry.

 Nakheel takes over ownership of QE2

The exchange of flags aboard the QE2 on Thursday sealed the vessel's new ownership under master-developer Nakheel.
Following 39 years of service, the QE2 will start a new chapter as an ultra-luxury hotel in Dubai, on the Palm Jumeirah.
The Cunard flags were lowered and Nakheel's raised.
The Captain then sounded the whistle for 39 seconds, "one second for every year of her service", Captain Ian McNaught said.

Site preparation, excavation and dewatering at the site of the Park Hyatt Resort, Abu Dhabi National Hotel's (ADNH) flagship project on Saadiyat Island, is now complete, according to a senior official from ADNH.

 QE2 drops anchor for final time in Dubai

Exactly 40 years to the day that the QE2 went on its first sea trials on November 26, 1968, the famous ocean liner arrived in Dubai to begin a new life as a luxury hotel.
The 70,000-tonne liner was handed over from current owners Cunard to Nakheel Hotels on Wednesday in a celebration that featured a flotilla of close to a hundred ships, traditional performances and a firework display.

 Abu Dhabi plans to more than double hotel rooms by 2012

There will be more than 26,000 hotel rooms in Abu Dhabi by 2012 and business tourism is a key focus of the emirate's tourism strategy, the chairman of the Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority (ADTA) said here on Monday.

 Sharjah’s hotel occupancy rates rise 75 per cent

Sharjah has registered 75 per cent growth in its hotel occupancy for the third quarter of 2008, with an increase of 13 per cent in the number of tourist visiting the emirate, according to statistic reports issued by the Sharjah Commercial and Tourism Development Authority (SCTDA).
