Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan yesterday received at the Al-Bateen Palace members of the national Under 17 and Under 19 youth teams and congratulated them for their superb achievements of qualifying to the youth world cup finals to be held in Nigeria and Egypt respectively next year.

 Mohammed bin Rashid opens FNC session

Vice President and Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, opened yesterday the third ordinary session of the 14th legislative chapter of the Federal National Council (FNC) in presence of Crown Princes and Deputy Rulers of various emirates.

 Mohammed Bin Zayed meets US President in Camp David

H.H General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces met with US President George W. Bush at Camp David resort Sunday evening.

The US Department of Education has lauded the UAE's experience in supporting special needs students and its efforts towards their inclusion in regular schools.

 Nahyan opens nanotechnology conference

UAE Higher Education and Scientific Research Minister HE Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, opened yesterday the second International Conference on Bio-Nanotechnology conference at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC).
The conference aims at assessing nano and micro technologies for emerging applications and its prospects in the region.

HE Sheikh Nahyan Bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, was the final Mystery Reader to surprise students, capping Dubai Cares' two-week Million Book Challenge.
Sheikh Nahyan read 'Sheikh Zayed', a book on the UAE's history, to over 50 Grade 1 students at GEMS World Academy in Dubai. He provided anecdotes and answered the questions of students who were engaged throughout the story.

 UAE exports set to reach Dh758b as GDP climbs

The UAE's exports for 2008 are forecast to reach Dh757.8 billion, up from an estimated Dh607.7 billion in 2007, while its import levels this year are forecast to reach Dh491.7 billion, the Oxford Business Group said in 'The Report: Abu Dhabi 2008', released here on Monday.
The UAE's GDP in 2007 reached Dh729.7 billion, according to the Ministry of Economy.
The report said the country's overall current account balance is forecast to improve to Dh241.8 billion in 2008, compared with Dh153.1

 Abu Dhabi plans to more than double hotel rooms by 2012

There will be more than 26,000 hotel rooms in Abu Dhabi by 2012 and business tourism is a key focus of the emirate's tourism strategy, the chairman of the Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority (ADTA) said here on Monday.
"Abu Dhabi's hotel room inventory will be in excess of 26,000 in 2012 and the destination is also rapidly developing international convention expertise to ensure its success as a major global meetings destination," said Sheikh Sultan Bin Tahnoon Al Nahyan.

 ADFD discusses cooperation with WB, Montenegro, executes US$29 million projects in Afghanistan

Mohammed Saif Al-Suwaidi, Acting Director General of the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (ADFD), received yesterday a delegation from the World Bank (WB), led by Juba Saba, Director of WB Strategic Cooperation Unit.

 Hafilat pioneers export manufacturing business in the UAE

Abu Dhabi-based Hafilat Industries has commenced shipping its first export batch of European buses to Australia from their 15,000m2 factory in ICAD-1, Mussafah, which opened earlier this year.
The shipment to Australia will be part of the company's contract to supply the City of Melbourne with 'Low Floor' city-buses on Mercedes Benz chassis.

 Dh3bn Zayed varsity deal awarded

The Al Habtoor-Murray and Roberts joint venture has been awarded a Dh3 billion contract for the design and construction of the new Zayed University campus in Abu Dhabi for Mubadala Development Company (Mubadala).
The Al Habtoor Leighton Group's share is Dh1.5bn. Work on the project will commence immediately and be completed in July 2011.

Abu Dhabi will host the World Ophthalmology Congress (WOC) 2012, which is expected to attract in excess of 12,000 international delegates.
WOC is the world's longest running and largest international medical meeting having been established in 1857 with the Abu Dhabi event representing the 33rd congress of its type.

Holiday from 2 to 11 December for all UAE schools announced

All public schools, private schools that follow the curricula of the Ministry of Education, kindergartens and adult education centers in the UAE will all get a holiday from December 2nd to December 11th and will open again on Sunday, December 14th, the Ministry of Education announced in a circular yesterday.
The holiday is to mark the two occasions of the National Day as well as the Eid Al Adha.
